Dr. Graham McMahon is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME®), which leverages the power of education to drive quality in the medical profession and in healthcare. The ACCME accredits continuing medical education (CME) providers in the US and internationally, creating a framework that supports, inspires, and motivates educators to achieve their full potential. Dr. McMahon leads initiatives to accelerate learning, change, and growth, enabling clinicians and interprofessional teams in practice to optimize their performance and continuously improve care for patients, families, and communities.
In addition to his role at the ACCME, Dr. McMahon serves as Adjunct Professor of Medicine and Medical Education at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine teaching medical students and fellows, and continues to care for patients with endocrine disorders at Howard Brown Health.
Previously Dr. McMahon was an associate dean and associate professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School, and program director for the fellowship program in the division of endocrinology, diabetes and hypertension at the Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston where he completed his postgraduate training. Dr. McMahon received his medical education at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, a master’s degree in clinical research from Harvard Medical School, and his doctorate in education from the National University of Ireland. He was the editor for medical education at the New England Journal of Medicine for more than 10 years. He has received local and national awards for his teaching and his work in medical education and diabetes research. His work has been published in the New England Journal of Medicine, Diabetes Care, the Archives of Internal Medicine, the Journal of General Internal Medicine, and Medical Education.
