Session Description: With the NPDB's expansive interpretation of events and actions that must be reported, physicians are increasingly turning to litigation to challenge reports or potential reports by hospitals. Understanding when NPDB reports are required and how to meet the requirements without creating liability can be challenging. This presentation will review reporting requirements, examine recent cases, and share best practices for submitting required NPDB reports while maximizing the likelihood that HCQIA immunity will apply.
Learning Objectives:
Recognize adverse clinical actions that must be reported
Recommend action to support HCQIA immunity for mandatory NPDB reports
Draft mandatory NPDB reports while minimizing potential liability
