Session Description: Medical staff professionals often find themselves in the unenviable position of dealing with poorly performing physicians including those with suspected impairment. This session will provide MSPs at all levels with guidance on how best to deal with dyscompetent and or underperforming physicians. With experts in the legal community and physician assessment, this session will provide MSPs with practical knowledge that they can use to identify early on when an intervention is needed and will provide an overview of resources available to help them mitigate problematic physician performance and conduct.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify when a provider should undergo a physician competency assessment.
  • Distinguish outside peer reviews from physician competency assessment and when to refer for each.
  • List resources available to them for dealing with poorly performing and or poorly behaving physicians including suspected impairment.
